Miss Star coming soon to Guyana
Tourism in Guyana is a multi-faceted industry : an admixture of adventure
,learning and fun .Primarily based on our diverse and unique biodiversity
and forming part of the exotic Guiana Shield, the "Land of Many Waters
"abounds with rich culture ,people and breathtaking scenery.
In keeping with its theme "A Symbol of Beauty and Heritage" the Miss Star Tourism Pageant will embraces this unique cultural heritage and holds Guyana
out as that distinct link.
The country's ecosystem types consist of marine environments ,a costal zone
largely shielded by a fringe of mangrove forest ,lowland moist forest, dry
evergreen forest, montane forest, grasslands and scrubs. A reasonable
postulate is that the country has many healthy natural habitats supporting
large and diverse populations of species with significant endemism for that
size of territory and a number of internationally protected species living
under in situ conditions in still good numbers .Species such as Panthera
onca (Mammalia)Melanosuchusniger and Podocnemis espansa (Reptilia),Harpia
harpyja (Aves) ,Arapaima gigas (fishes) are still found in Guyana in good
numbers under in situ conditions ,even in the absence of a protected arears
network.
More importantly though ,Guyana as a tourist destination offers visitors a
tropical retreat, suffused with endless vistas ideal for romance ,relaxation
and solitude and rich in pride.
Abounding in simplicity the tropical splendours of Guyana captivates the
boundless imagination of artist, poets and nature lovers .It also serves as a
backdrop for idyllic undertakings making it possible the only destination in
the Caribbean with this blend.
The Canopy Walkway owned by the Iwokrama International Centre is an
important piece of architecture giving visitors the opportunity to see many
species of birds, monkeys and even the jaguar .Iwokrama boasts some of the
Animal Kingdom rarities including the world's largest fresh water fish the
Arapaima ,the world's largest Otter the Giant River Otter ,South America's
largest eagle the Harpy Eagle and the world's largest fresh water turtle the
Giant River Turtle.
Guyana is also rich with architectual heritage ,its architecture drawing
from the colonial legacy is a confluence of English, Dutch and traditional
extractions dating back to the 19th century .Guyana then has another unique
offering Heritage Tourism the St. Georges's Cathedral ,the Supreme Court and
the Stabroek Market all stand out. Our unique fusion of architecture has
propelled UNESO to nominate sections of Georgetown as a World Heritage Site.
